General location
Marresearch GmbH is grateful to openstreetmap.org for providing maps
Our premises are located in the street Hans-Böckler-Ring 17 in the city of Norderstedt, community of Glashuette. Norderstedt is a northern suburb of Hamburg. It doesn't actually belong to Hamburg, but is the 5'th largest community in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The city of Norderstedt is an artificial conglomerate of a couple of small communities. The Hans-Böckler-Ring is a small business district surrounded by a lovely environment, in particular the natural preserve of ”Wittmoor” right next door.
More local information can be found on the Norderstedt council website (in German only). For more information about the city of Hamburg see the city of Hamburg website (German version, for the version in English version use this link).
By Air
Hamburg airport (HAM) is conveniently located in the northern part of Hamburg. The airport offers a wide variety of national and international but no overseas connections. To get from the aiport to the Hans-Böckler-Ring, there are 2 choices:
- Taxi
A taxi ride takes approx. 25 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Taxi drivers may not be totally familiar with the Hans-Böckler-Ring since it isn't located in Hamburg but in Norderstedt. Tell the taxi driver to go to Norderstedt-Glashuette. Well known landmarks close-by are the factory of Ethicon, a large medical apparatus manufacturer, and the Wittmoor. Be prepared to pay about 20 EUR.
- Public transport
Starting in late 2008, the local transport authority (HVV) offers a local train service to the airport. Alternatively, the HVV operates a reliable bus service (line 110), which runs every 10 minutes and connects the arrival terminals (1,2,3) with the metro station U/S-Ohlsdorf. The ride takes 10 minutes. From there, take the blue line U1 outbound towards Norderstedt Mitte. If you are coming before 9 a.m. in the morning, you might consider to drop off at station Langenhorn-Markt. In front of the station, take bus 192 towards Glashuette/Hans-Böckler-Ring and leave at the last bus-stop Hans-Böckler-Ring (19 minutes) from where it is only a few steps. Otherwise, you will have to drop off at train station Ochsenzoll where there is a taxi stand, or leave at station Kiwittsmoor and give us a call so we can pick you up.
The entire journey takes about 35 minutes. Buy a HVV-ticket for the ”Grossbereich Hamburg” either at the vending machine at the airport or in the bus 110. A all-day-ticket might be cheaper than taking 2 one-way tickets.
An alternative to using Hamburg airport could be to fly to Lübeck airport (LBC). LBC offers services to London-Stansted and a few other locations with Ryanair. LBC is about 60 km (1 hour) away from Norderstedt. A taxi drive is going to be very expensive. Renting a car would probably be more appropriate.
By Rail
The German rail (Deutsche Bahn AG) offers countless high-speed links to Hamburg. Within Hamburg, there are at least 4 major train stations: Harburg, Hauptbahnhof (Hbf), Dammtor and Altona. Get off the train at Hamburg Hbf. To get from the Harmburg Hbf to the Hans-Böckler-Ring, there are 2 choices:
- Taxi
A taxi ride takes 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic conditions and is going to cost about 40 EUR. See section ”By Air -> Taxi” for further details.
- Public transport
From the metro station Hauptbahnhof Sued, take the blue metro line U1 towards Norderstedt Mitte. Follow the instructions in the section ”By Air -> Public Transport”.
