About us

Until April 2003, the official name of the company has been X-ray Research GmbH. The Image Plate Detector Systems, however, have always been sold under the trade mark "marresearch". The company has therefore been renamed to Marresearch GmbH. Our headquarters is in Norderstedt (Hamburg), Germany, and all Image Plate Detector Systems are being manufactured in Hamburg.

The company started life in 1990 as an offspring of image plate detector developments at the EMBLoutstation at DESY (Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron) in Hamburg. The advent of image plate technology has been a major impact in X-ray diffraction by the end of the 80's. Several predecessors of the commercial scanners have been extensively used at the EMBL beam lines with huge success, which helped getting started with the company.

Since these times, the company has grown continuously. Since 1996 we also sell CCD detectors (marUSA). In 1997, a mirror system was added to our range of products. In 1999 we started selling a CCD-camera based X-ray beam monitor. In 2000 we redesigned the goniometer system and were able to offer for to home lab users the kind of setup that can be found on synchrotrons only.

In only 5 years, mar has become a synonym for highest quality and reliability of X-ray equipment. Our image plate and CCD detectors can be found on virtually all synchrotron protein beam lines around the world, since they are the only ones that meet their high standards (data quality, uptime).
